The Hickory Choral Society will present "Stars in the East" this Sunday.

HICKORY, NC - In its 33rd season the Hickory Choral Society presents the “Stars in the East” concert on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Olivet Baptist Church, 7893 Monbo Road in Catawba, North Carolina. The 3:00 PM concert is free and open to the public. This winter concert repertoire is varied and exciting, featuring an assortment of shorter choral works with powerful and moving texts.

This concert is funded by a Project Pools Grant from the Catawba County Council of the Arts.

Since the spring of 1978, the Hickory Choral Society has continued to delight audiences with excellent choral music literature. The Choral Society consistently provides music lovers with expertly performed, exciting and well-attended concerts. The all-volunteer group, made up of 110 singers from Catawba and surrounding counties, is well known throughout North Carolina for its annual Christmas Concerts at Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory.

The Choral Society has also performed with the North Carolina Symphony and at New York City’s Lincoln Center. In 1997, the vocalists indulged in an extended trip to the United Kingdom that included concerts in Portsmouth and London, England and Edinburgh, Scotland. In May 2010 the Hickory Choral Society was honored to be an invited participant of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC.

The group’s 2002 and 2003 Christmas Concerts were broadcast live statewide over UNC-TV and have been rebroadcast on several occasions since.
